THE ADVOCATE AWARDS
 
Students working on the next edition of the Advocate newspaper.
 
The Advocate is an award winning student newspaper published by Contra Costa College.  The paper is published weekly during the school year and has a circulation of approximately 2,500.  Advocate reporters and photographers cover the campus and topics ranging from crime on campus, to student profiles, sports, and local entertainment.  The tradition of The Advocate has always been to chase news stories and focus on the hard news.

AWARDS

Since 1990, The Advocate has won 11 National Pacemaker Awards and was inducted into the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame in 1996.
 
Fall 2009 Awards

The Advocate newspaper student staff came back from the National College Media Convention with some prestigious national awards:
1. National Newspaper Pacemaker Award (considered the Pulitzer Prize of college journalism and just five were given to 2-year college papers nationwide) Isaac Thomas
2. 3rd Place Picture Story in the nation (including all colleges and universities in the nation)
3. 1st Place Best of Show, Two-Year Broadsheet Weekly paper
4. 1st Place Best of Show, Two-Year Specialty Edition
Ten Advocate editors attended the convention in Austin, Texas with the support of more than 80 people who donated money that paid for their hotel and meal expenses, and convention registration. 
Annually, this convention is the largest meeting of college journalists in the country.  Students attended workshops, seminars and speeches hosted by working journalists, college professors, and students.  It is truly a life-changing experience for them.  Thanks to all who made it possible.
